Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has 63 elected members (Councillors) 3 for each of the 21 electoral wards. The Council modernised its Democratic Structures in 1999. An extensive consultation resulted in the formal introduction of a model constitution in 2001; the new structure is based on the Leader and Cabinet style of governance.
